Dear Esteemed Asia TEFL Members,

I hope all is well with you.

I would like to express my deep gratitude to all the people for your having attended the 9th Asia TEFL conference in Seoul. Asia TEFL wrote another chapter of a great story in its history.
I would like to announce that the 10th Asia TEFL conference will be held in Delhi, India on October 4-6, 2012, based on the title of "Expanding Horizons of Language and Communication: ELT Issues, Challenges and Implications."

I would like to invite you to the 2012 Asia TEFL conference. More detailed information on the conference will be postered on the website(www.asiatefl.org) sooner or later.
A good news is that a series of Asia TEFL books will be published in the Routledge.

I would like to share my vision and goals for Asia TEFL below with you:

  1. To provide more ELT professionals in Asia with access to more information about teaching and learning English in Asia and around the world through conferences and issues of the Journal of Asia TEFL and the Asia TEFL book series.
  2. To search for more effective, interesting, and creative English teaching and learning methods which are optimal in Asian contexts, and to provide awards each year for such method.
  3. To encourage scholars in Asia to engage in more creative and innovative research and to publish this research in the Journal of Asia TEFL. Awards for these will be given every year.
  4. To provide more people in Asia with more opportunities for cross-cultural understanding through the Asia TEFL conference being held in different Asian regions each year.
  5. To broaden Asian ELT professionals' horizons with regards to their lives and the ELT profession.
  6. To contribute significantly to peace, stability, and prosperity in Asia through better and easier exchange of information about English education, people, society, and culture.
  7. To encourage ELT professionals in Asia to have pride, confidence, and conviction in their profession.

These are my vision, my desires, my goals for Asia TEFL.

With great respect,
Hyo Woong Lee
President of Asia TEFL
